Chennai, formerly known as Madras, was the former chief outpost of the British East India company. Officially renamed
Chennai in the late 1990s, Chennai is now a sprawling city of roughly 6-7 million people. Bordered on the east by the
Bay of Bengal, Chennai sits at roughly 14 degrees north latitude and is the gateway to South India.
The pictures shown here were taken in and around Chennai.

This is a view of Marina Beach on the Bay of Bengal. 13km long, it is one of the largest, albeit not best, beaches
in the world.

This is a shot of the shore temple complex at Mamallapuram (aka, Mahaballipuram). An excellent example
of Pallava architecture, the temple structures date from the 7th century A.D.
